Business Licenses

HBC 5.02.010
A. No individual may engage in business in the Haines Borough without first having been issued a Haines Borough business license.

B. Business license application. A business license application form shall be provided by the borough office. Upon completion of the application form, submittal of all required attachments, including a copy of applicant's Alaska State business license, and the payment of biennial $50.00 fee, a borough business license will be issued to the applicant. A current copy of the borough business license must be displayed in the place of business.

 HBC 3.80.030 A consumer's tax is hereby levied on all retail sales made, on all rents or leases paid and on all services performed within the borough in the regular course of business except such as hereinafter exempted.

Please Note: There are many businesses that are exempt from collecting sales tax. These businesses are still responsible for license requirements in addition to  filing of annual sales tax returns.
