Purpose
The Haines Borough Planning Commission is the sole planning body of the borough, guided by the Comprehensive Plan.
Composition
The Planning Commission consists of seven members appointed by the mayor, with the approval of the assembly, to three-year staggered terms.
Powers and Duties
The Planning Commission has powers and duties provided for by the Borough Charter and the Borough Code as prescribed by the Assembly. The Planning Commission...
- Presents to the Assembly a comprehensive plan including recommendations for zoning districts based on existing land uses and information gathered by a public hearing process;
- Advises the Assembly on all matters related to planning and zoning, including the establishment of political boundaries;
- Formulates and develops planning proposals for submission to the Assembly whenever requested to do so by the Assembly or upon its own motion;
- Gathers information and informs the public at hearings on planning matters, and promotes public interest and understanding of the comprehensive plan; and
- Plans for borough capital improvements and land sales.
