HAINES BOROUGH 2025 GENERAL ELECTION: TUESDAY OCTOBER 7 

The Haines Borough General Municipal Election is held on the first Tuesday in the month of October each year to fill vacancies in borough offices and to decide other matters as may be placed on the ballot in the form of propositions. 

The Borough Elections are coordinated locally by the Haines Borough Clerk.

The deadline to Register to vote in the October 7th Election is SEPTEMBER 7th, 2025. See link below for more information, or visit the state elections website.

Early Voting (Absentee In-person) will start on Monday, September 22nd and continue Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm through October 6th.

On the Ballot: Sales Tax Proposition

“Shall the Haines Borough increase the sales tax rate seasonally from 5.5% to 7% in the townsite and from 4% to 5% areawide from April 1 through September 30, with the additional revenue supporting the school as well as the services provided in the townsite service area, and reduce the sales tax to 4.5% in the townsite and 3% areawide from October 1 through March 31 while also exempting groceries from sales tax during those months?”

Precincts & Polling Places

The Haines Borough has two precincts currently with the following polling places. Note: the precincts are determined by the State of Alaska, and the polling places are the ones the state uses for its elections every two years. Maps may be seen HERE.

  • Haines No. 1 –  Boundaries described in 6 AAC 333.545. Polling Place: ANB/ANS Hall at the corner of 1st Avenue and Willard Street.
  • Haines No. 2 – Boundaries described in 6 AAC 333.550. Polling Place: Klehini Valley Fire Department on Mosquito Lake Road.

Election Supervisor

The borough clerk serves as the borough's election supervisor and has the authority to conduct all election proceedings and to carry out the intent of the borough's election laws. The clerk may authorize an assistant to assist with the supervisory functions and, prior to each election, with assembly approval through resolution, appoints election workers for each polling place. These workers attend a mandatory training prior to the election.
